This museum with beautiful interior garden, café and shop has a unique location in the historical centre of Ghent

The House of Alijn tells a timeless story about the culture of everyday life, a magnificent tale about all things great and small. In the museum, ordinary objects and curiosties offer a startling introduction to our common inheritance. They reveal the spirit of the times as well as ways and customs and they remind us of days past. You can zap into the digital photo album, listen to sound-recordings and plunge into film excerpts. In short, this museum offers a striking portrayal of the evolution of 20th century everyday life.

HOW TO GET THERE ?

BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Gent Sint-Pieters: in front of the railway station, you take tram line 1, which takes you to the old Hall of Justice. The only terminus of that line is the stop 'Justitiepaleis'. From that point, you walk up the Veldstraat and over the Korenmarkt, continuing up to the Groentemarkt, in the direction of the Gravensteen (the Castle of the Counts). Having reached the Veerleplein, you turn to the right and follow the Kraanlei.

Gent-Dampoort: at the big roundabout (the platform is located under the viaduct), you take bus line 3 as far as the stop 'Sint-Jacobs - Vlasmarkt'. From that point, you walk to the Vrijdagmarkt and further in the direction of the old quarter Patershol. Go across the small bridge (Zuivelbrug) to the Kraanlei and follow it to the left.

BY CAR
Coming from the E40 or the E17 you take the exit Gent-Centrum and you follow the P-route up to the ‘Parking Vrijdagmarkt’. This underground car park (not free) lies within a stone’s throw from the museum.

If you want to avoid the city centre, you can drive to one of the free Park & Ride zones on the outskirts of town. You can park your car there and take public transport to the museum. Park & Ride zones are to be found near to Flanders Expo (E40/exit Flanders Expo – tram line 1), in Gentbrugge (motorway E17/exit 10 Gentbrugge – tram lines 21 and 22) and in Oostakker (E17/ R4, exit 3 Oostakker – bus lines 17, 18, 76, 77 and 78).
