St Anne's Church

St Anne's Church
Gent . East-Flanders . Bélgica

n the early nineteenth century, the Het Zuid neighbourhood developed rapidly, causing a sharp population growth in the area. For the increased local population, construction of a new church started in 1853 to replace the small Saint Anne’s chapel. Saint Anne’s church, built in the eclectic Rundbogenstil, was never fully completed, but opened anyway in 1862. The façade was recently renovated and currently renovation works on the western side are taking place. Unfortunately, the church only opens its doors for Sunday mass and is not open for visitors.
